Ahead of the launch of our Resort 2023 Collection, we sat down with Lisa Moore, founder and owner of Cover Swim. Lisa's designs are the heart and soul of this collaborative capsule line, and we know you'll love Cover Swim's protective and beautiful swim silhouettes as much as we do. Get a behind-the-scenes peek at Lisa's inspiration, aspiration, and innovation in this quick interview.
We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Cover Swim. There’s so much to appreciate in a beachwear line that emphasizes fashion and function in equal measure. Can you share a bit about Cover’s origin story—where the idea for the company came from and how you brought that idea to life?
As a young mom of babies, I was always trying to keep their skin protected from the hot Texas sun and found it impossible to easily look after my own sun protection. Nothing existed on the market to physically block the sun while in and around water, so I created it.
One aspect about Cover that really stands out is the diversity of swimwear silhouettes you offer. It’s an extremely inclusive line that really subverts the modern idea of what swimwear “should” be. What inspires you in your development of new swim styles?
I want my clothing to be chic and comfortable, so that is how I design. Always with fit and function at the forefront but also style. I love basics that I never get tired of—that, to me, is sustainability.
Another distinctive feature of the Cover brand is the aesthetic—in addition to waterwear basics, you also feature some really stunning pieces created in collaboration with artists and designers. What do you enjoy most about the collaborative process?
I love art, and especially contemporary art by living artists. I really enjoy getting to know other creatives and brand founders. Collaborating has become my favorite part of my job.
In developing the print for our collaboration, we drew a lot of inspiration from the colors and forms of coral found in Caribbean reefs. Have you spent any time snorkeling or diving?
Yes, we just got back from snorkeling along the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. I love the colors especially.
If we took a peek in your beach bag, what would we find?
Water, iPhone, Elta MD Clear 47 sunscreen, Coola unscented body spray, and the latest fashion magazines (it’s the only time I thumb through them!).
Any favorite memories from time spent by the sea?
I love to be around the ocean anywhere, but my family spends a lot of time in Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA. It’s my favorite because it means we are together spending time as a family.
What’s your go-to beach locale? Any shoreline destinations on your bucket list?
For beaches that are easy to get to from Dallas, I love the clear water in Turks and Caicos. My favorite place I’ve ever been is Iceland. I still want to go to Capri.
What’s next for Cover?
I’m always collaborating with the coolest artists and founders, and I have two in the pipeline for SS23 :)
