BACK TO BASICS: Meet The New Sea Star

Posted by Colleen Napolitano on

This fall, Sea Star is reconnecting with our roots—and we can't wait for you to join us. Learn more about our exciting plans in a letter from Founder/CEO Libby Fitzgerald.

To Our Treasured Sea Star Community,

Over the past few weeks, you may have noticed some changes to our brand. We're proud to now share our good news and officially announce the start of a new chapter of the Sea Star story:

We're bringing our core essentials back into focus and recommitting to our mission of delivering the highest quality products possible so that you can continue relying on your Sea Stars from the beach to the streets and every destination in between.

When I launched Sea Star in 2015, I had a single goal in mind: to create a water shoe so stylish and comfortable, you'd want to wear it everywhere. The journey from launching our debut Beachcomber Espadrille to the expansive line of fashion-forward designs that gained us a cult following has been nothing short of amazing.

Over the years, we've collaborated with iconic brands and earned rave reviews from taste-making publications and buyers alike. But at the heart of it all, our top priority has always been designing shoes that are simple and timeless—reliable for everyday wear with classic sensibilities to last through the years.

We have decided to return to our roots, relaunching with a focus on the products that first made us who we are. By concentrating on our core styles, we aim to improve upon the high standards of quality and advance the functional product engineering that define the Sea Star brand. As we embrace our heritage, refine our core products, and prepare to reintroduce them to the world, here's what to expect.

What's changing:

  • OUR PRODUCT FOCUS: We're streamlining our collection to center the styles you first fell in love with, which will ensure more consistent availability and make it more achievable to renew our dedication to customer satisfaction.

  • OUR NAME: While we got our start on the shores of Caribbean, our buyers have known for years that we're so much more than beachwear. Sea Stars have become your go-to shoes for everything from errands and gardening at home to boating and exploring new cities—and we're reflecting that in our new Sea Star name.

What will always stay the same:

  • OUR COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE: Guaranteeing that our line of shoes and bags retains the premium status our community has come to expect requires us to stay on the cutting edge of production innovation. Behind the scenes, we'll be directing more of our focus toward research and development in order to perfect the items you love, making them more durable, comfortable, and adventure-ready than ever before.

  • OUR CARE FOR THE PLANET: With a specialty product like ours, the switch to eco-conscious production can't happen overnight—it takes a significant investment of time, research, creativity, and other resources to implement more earth-friendly solutions without sacrificing quality or affordability. Building on our existing sustainability commitments, our next goal is to transition to no-waste and recycled materials in our products.

The remaining stock of our discontinued products will be available on our sale page until they sell out.

During this period of transformation, stay tuned for updates, sneak peeks, and exclusive offers. Your feedback has always been our biggest influence and inspiration, and we'll continue to listen and interact with you regularly to make sure we're moving in the right direction. We welcome your thoughts and questions by email at, on our Instagram and Facebook pages, and in product reviews.

Above all else, what keeps us inspired is you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for bringing Sea Star into your favorite vacations, beach weddings, and life-changing moments big and small. The support of our beautiful community makes what we do possible, and there's no one we'd rather share this journey with than you.

With gratitude and excitement,

Libby Fitzgerald
